Inside the HCCI Philosophy of Protection

Your protection and security should be everything to the company you hire.

Not all private security companies are created equal. Unfortunately, most sacrifice the integrity of their services to lower their costs and get their foot in the door when recruiting new clients. This leads to a myriad of problems ranging from low customer satisfaction due to lack of adequate training, absence of professionalism from both management and staff, and shocking levels of dependability-related issues. Furthermore, companies often engage in security theater, providing no real solutions while assuring their clients that they are indeed making a difference, all to lower costs. These factors have turned most private security firms into a joke, and not an actual solution to serious problems. At HCCI Protection, we set out to fundamentally change what people can expect from the private security industry. We believe that by focusing on effective security solutions, emphasizing cultural integration, and instilling a sense of dedication, we can make a real difference in the industry and for our clients.

First, to understand what constitutes effective security, it is important to observe the environment you are in and what you seek protection from, whether you are a business owner, community leader, or concerned individual. In most cases, people who are seeking security services are concerned about theft, vandalism, violent crime, active shooters, and so on depending on their location and their type of organization or business. In the US, it is common for criminals and would-be attackers to be armed with weapons. Combine this fact with the rapid decline of mental health and the rise in mass shootings, and violent crime becomes a major concern for many Americans. Security personnel who are not armed with the capability to use force at an equal or greater degree than the potential criminals are simply unable to effectively stop said criminals. For example, it would be senseless to employ the use of unarmed security guards if your primary concern is to stop violent criminals or active shooters.

This leads us to HCCI’s first principle. If you are seeking effective physical security, that security must be armed and capable of using force that is equal to or greater than the threats they intend to face. In the US, this means carrying a firearm, usually a handgun, at all times. Security personnel who do not carry firearms are not providing effective security, they are only providing security theater by creating the illusion of security for their clients. These pseudo-security services are also beginning to fail to provide even this false sense of security, as criminals become aware that there is, in reality, nothing stopping them from committing crimes or violent acts. The unarmed personnel might as well not even be there in the first place. Therefore, we at HCCI Protection believe that the first principle of effective security is armed personnel.

One benefit of using armed security is the increased quality of training guards receive, which translates into a more professional and dependable service. Guards who carry firearms have a dramatically increased level of responsibility and must conduct themselves professionally while always staying well within the bounds of the law. They must also be capable of de-escalation, using less- and non-lethal platforms, and maintaining acute situational awareness. In order to meet these higher standards, HCCI goes above and beyond the required training at the state and city level. We believe that this is necessary to produce quality results for our clients and provide them with effective security.

HCCI’s second principle is the implementation of effective and comprehensive security plans. Any security company that takes its job seriously will consider all likely scenarios that their client may find themselves in. They will walk through and inspect the facility and surrounding property, gather intelligence regarding the criminal history of the area, and listen carefully to their client’s concerns. This, and much more, is all done to be able to determine not only the possible threats posed to the client but also their level of risk. A security auditor will then make recommendations for the implementation of a security plan, as well as steps to take for facility hardening.

It is then the responsibility of the client to decide if they wish to implement all the recommended measures, some of them, or none of them. Regardless of the client’s choice, it is the duty of the security auditor to present all the facts and make the client aware of the varying degrees of importance each measure has regarding risk mitigation. This is pivotal to ensure that the client is not lulling themselves into a false sense of security, or worse, being taken advantage of by being sold security theater in the place of effective security.

Another key to effective security that HCCI believes in, and one that is often overlooked in the industry, is successfully integrating into the client’s culture. This can be achieved through the security company and its personnel taking the time to understand the nuances of the client’s routines, traditions, beliefs, workplace dynamics, and more. When security personnel demonstrate respect for the people they protect and their environment, it helps build rapport, enhances communication, and ultimately builds mutual trust. These things are important when convincing the client’s community or employees of the importance of following the security procedures and helps to minimize the perceived inconvenience caused by them. Ultimately, being able to have a pulse on the state of the community helps security personnel do their job more effectively.

Finally, HCCI Protection was founded with the following principles: Honor, Courage, Commitment, and Integrity. We strive to apply these principles to every aspect of our business and at every stage of development. We conduct ourselves with integrity, we are committed to the cause of effective security, we seek those who have the courage to protect those who need it most, and strive to honor our clients, personnel, and others in our community. These timeless principles are a precursor to real professionalism and dependability, making us a standout contender in the private security industry.
